Advantages of Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Produce Complex Shape Parts

Aluminium alloy dis casting process is used to produce parts of complex shapes that cannot be manufactured through other processes like machining or extrusion. It is a high-pressure die-casting process allowing the production of intricate shapes with fine details. Aluminium flow characteristics lead to the formation of thin-walled parts that reduce the weight of the parts as well as the wastage of the material.

Lightweight Strength

Aluminium is known for its strength-to-weight ratio, so die-cast parts made of aluminium are durable yet light in weight. This makes these parts ideal for applications where reducing weight without compromising strength is essential like in the automotive and aerospace sectors.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Aluminium alloy die-cast parts have a protective oxide layer that prevents the part from rusting and enhances its corrosion resistance. This makes aluminium die cast suitable for creating parts for marine and outdoor applications that need to withstand harsh environmental exposure.

Dimensional Precision and Stability

Aluminium alloy die casting produces parts ensuring dimensional accuracy and stability. This makes aluminium die-casting parts beneficial for industries like electronics and medical equipment where precision is critical.

Good Thermal and Electrical Conductivity

Aluminium with its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity is preferred for making die-cast parts such as electrical enclosures, heat sinks, and LED lighting fixtures.

High Production Efficiency

Aluminium alloy die casting allows for mass production with low per-unit costs, making it cost-effective for high-volume manufacturing. This is because once the die is created the parts can be efficiently and quickly produced in bulk.

Applications Of Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Automotive Industry: Aluminum alloy die-cast parts are widely used in automotive engines, transmissions, chassis, and body components, such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, transmission housings, steering knuckles, and wheel hubs. These parts offer advantages such as light weight, high strength, and good heat dissipation, improving fuel economy and performance.

Electronics and Communications: Used in manufacturing casings, heat sinks, and connectors for electronic products such as mobile phones, computers, and tablets. Aluminum alloy die casting meets the requirements of electronic products for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and heat dissipation performance.

Aerospace: In the aerospace field, aluminum alloy die-cast parts are used to manufacture aircraft engine components, landing gear components, and satellite structural components. Their high strength and lightweight characteristics contribute to improved aircraft performance and reduced fuel consumption.

Other Fields: Also used in household goods (such as lighting fixtures and furniture accessories), medical devices, and power tools.

The process of aluminum alloy die casting

Melting: Aluminum alloy raw materials (such as aluminum ingots, scrap aluminum, etc.) are placed in a furnace and heated to melt, typically at a temperature of around 650-750℃. Simultaneously, alloying elements and refining agents are added to adjust the composition and remove gas and slag, improving the quality of the aluminum alloy.

Die Casting: The molten aluminum alloy is injected into the pressure chamber of the die casting machine through a conveying pipe or ladle. The die casting machine performs the die casting operation according to the set program and parameters, including steps such as mold closing, injection, pressure holding, cooling, and mold opening.

Demolding: After the casting cools to a certain temperature within the mold, it is ejected from the mold by an ejector mechanism, resulting in a pre-formed aluminum alloy die casting.

Post-processing: This includes deburring, surface treatment (such as sandblasting, polishing, anodizing, etc.), and machining (such as drilling, milling, turning, etc.) to meet the dimensional accuracy and surface quality requirements of the parts.

FAQ

Q: Can you produce custom die casting parts based on drawings?

A: Yes. We manufacture custom die casting parts strictly according to customer drawings. DFM analysis is provided before tooling to ensure the design is suitable for die casting production.

Q: What tolerance can you achieve for die casting parts?

A: Standard tolerance is ±0.1mm, and ±0.05mm can be achieved on critical dimensions with CNC machining and inspection reports.

Q: How long is your delivery time?

A: Samples are generally 3-7 days; bulk orders are 10-25 days, depending on the quantity and parts requirements.

Q: What secondary processes do you offer?

A: We offer CNC machining, polishing, powder coating, anodizing, plating, assembly, and custom packaging as a one-stop die casting solution.

Q: How do you guarantee the quality of your products?

A: We have set up multiple inspection procedures and can provide quality inspection report before delivery. And we can also provide samples for you to test before mass production.

Q: Which aluminum alloys are most commonly used?

A: The most popular alloys are A380 (good cost/performance balance), A383 (good die fill for complex parts), and ADC12 (good fluidity and shrinkage characteristics).

Q: What is the difference between hot and cold chamber die casting for aluminum?

A: Aluminum is typically cast using cold chamber machines because its high melting point would damage the pump mechanisms used in hot chamber machines, which are better suited for lower-melting-point materials like zinc.

Q: Can aluminum die-cast parts be treated or finished?

A: Yes, they can be polished, painted, powder coated, or anodized to improve appearance and corrosion resistance.

Q: What is the typical lifespan of a die casting mold?

A: With proper maintenance, a steel die casting mold can produce around 50,000 to 100,000 shots (production cycles) before needing significant repair or replacement.
